How Long Do Acrylic Nails Last? Fills, Timing and Care
Quick answer: An acrylic set can last as long as you keep it maintained. You need a fill every 2 to 3 weeks as your natural nail grows. Most people get a fresh full set every 6 to 8 weeks or when they want a new shape or color. At Diamond Nails, fills start at $40 and full sets at $50.
Why fills matter
Your natural nail grows about 3 millimeters a month. As it grows, the acrylic moves forward, the gap at the cuticle gets bigger and the weight shifts to the tip. That makes nails more likely to lift, snag or break. A fill adds acrylic to the new growth and rebalances the nail.
Signs you need a fill
- A visible gap near your cuticle
- Lifting at the base or sides
- Nails feel heavy or tip-forward
- Color looks grown out
Fill or new set?
Choose a fill if your set is in good shape and you like the length. Choose a new set if there is a lot of lifting, you want a different shape, or it has been more than 3 to 4 weeks since your last fill.
Make your acrylics last
- Use cuticle oil every day
- Wear gloves for cleaning
- Don't use nails to open things
- Never pick at lifting: book a fix instead
